The unknown negatives : Vivien Maier.

Vivien Maier. Her occupation, Nanny based in NewYork during the 50’s/60s. A photographer in her own right, fascinated by culture and the varying street scenes of the city, however, she wasn’t known for this until 2007.

A historical historical hobbyist, John Maloof, bought a box full of never developed negatives at a local auction for $380. It didn’t take long before he realised that these were no ordinary street snapshots. Her work ventures outside the comfortable homes and picturesque residential neighbourhoods of her employers to document all segments of life in and around the big city.street-photography-0013814 54-56 53-76 53-11 53-235 55-511 907 830 56-738 740 1322

Before John could  make contact with her, he came across her obituary in a newspaper of 2009. She was 83 years old when she passed away.street-photography-005

However, since then the pictures gained international media and artistic credit and these $380 negatives have been sent throughout the world.
